Richard B. Russell Airport Open House April 12, 2014
3/27/14 -- 9:15 a.m.
Rome, Ga. — The Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 709 is sponsoring an Open House at Floyd County's Richard B. Russell Airport on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The airport is located just off of Highway 27 North, North of Armuchee High School at 304 Russell Field Rd NE.
The goal of EAA Chapter 709 is that our community will become aware of the activities, organizations and businesses located at the airport. Our airport, owned by the citizens of Floyd County is a vital part of our local economy. Manager Mike Matthews and the Airport Commission run the day-to-day activities of the airport.
Attendees will be able to visit the following businesses and organizations: Georgia Northwestern Aviation facilities, flight training facilities of Tillman Aviation University and Freedom Flight. The terminal will be open for tours and the Chapter 709 will be providing hotdogs and explaining their organization and programs. Tiger Flight and the Civil Air Patrol will explain their organizations and L&M Aircraft, Inc. will share their facilities. There is a planned display of aircraft and gyrocopters and both flight training facilities will be offering introductory flights.
Information on this year’s Wings Over North Georgia Air Show featuring the USAF Thunderbirds will be available.
EAA 709, whose motto is “Promoting aviation through fellowship, sharing and learning”, offers activities for pilots and non-pilots alike. Only a desire to know more and a love for aviation are required for participation. Our EAA 709 chapter sponsors a local fly-in breakfast on the first Saturday of every month on the east side of the airport, 3.1 miles down the Old Dalton Road.
All aviation enthusiasts are encouraged to attend our breakfast. Pilots flying in are usually more than happy for you to look at their aircraft and answer questions. Our monthly meeting follows our breakfast. We have several members building aircraft. We sponsor Young Eagle and Eagle flights.
EAA 709 is a chapter of the International Experimental Aircraft Association. There are many interest areas in our organization to include homebuilders, learn to fly, pilots, sport pilot/LSA, ultralights, aerobatics, war birds, and vintage aircraft. There are many programs available for participation, which include Eagle flights, Young Eagles, EAA Museum, Sportair Workshops, Our B-17, our Ford Tri-Motor, the Air Academy, and others.
