Berry College will host the NCAA 2014 Division III Cross Country South/Southeast Regionals welcoming in the top cross country programs from around the region.
The event will take place on Nov. 15 when the Vikings will battle more than 30 teams and 200 athletes on the world’s largest campus.
"We hosted our conference championships last year, and we received overwhelmingly positive feedback about our course and location," said Dr. Tom Hart, Berry's athletic director. "We are excited to host this prestigious event and are delighted to showcase our campus and the hospitable Rome community, while serving as host to the fine student-athletes and teams in our region."
Berry will host one of eight regionals, which will qualify runners to the NCAA Championships. The 2014 Division III Championship will be hosted by Wilmington College on Nov. 22.
Last year, the Viking men placed 6th out of 24 teams at the regionals meet. Senior Ryan James ranked 3rd (24:56.18) out of the 174 runners in the XC Regionals meet. He gained all-region honors as well as a place on the South/Southeast Regional team and advanced to the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships. The Berry women placed 14th at the 2013 regionals.
"The Berry campus is a setting that fits cross country very well," said Berry College Cross Country Coach Paul Deaton. "We are pleased to have the opportunity to share this course with the NCAA regional championship race. I hope to organize a race atmosphere that will put every participating athlete in a position to compete to their best."
