UPDATE FRIDAY EVENING:
The early voting period in Floyd County came to an end late Friday afternoon and just shy of 3,100 people took advantage of the opportunity to cast a ballot before Election Day.
According to figures provided to WRGA by the Floyd County Elections Office Friday, 590 votes were tallied on the final day of early voting, bringing the grand total for the three week period to 3,093. Early Voting began Monday October 14th at the Floyd County Administration Building, though this past week people were also able to utilize the Rome Civic Center to vote.
Election Day is this Tuesday November 5th and all Floyd County voting precincts will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Floyd County residents have been taking greater advantage of early voting this week as nearly as many people have voted in person the last three days as did the previous two weeks.
Floyd County Elections Supervisor Evon Billups told WRGA that once polls had closed Wednesday evening, just shy of 2,200 total votes had been tallied for the municipal election.
Early voting got underway October 14th and during the first week about 600 votes were cast. That number decreased to around 560 the following week. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday over 1,000 votes were cast.
Billups says voter turnout has been about what she anticipated but thought there would be greater turnout at this point.
Early voting continues Thursday and Friday at the Floyd County Administration Building and at the Rome Civic Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tuesday November 5th is Election Day and all voting precincts will be open across Floyd County from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
