Better Road Plans

There are ways to make the needed transportation improvements in Georgia, but state leaders are not taking that route according to Georgia Transportation Board Representative David Doss from the 11th Congressional District. Doss says the Governor’s Office has failed to recognize the exponential damage caused by some of the state funding cuts. Commenting earlier this month, Doss said Georgia is falling far behind other Southeast state, where a greater investment in roadwork and infrastructure is now serving as means of economic development. The approval of House Bill 277 this year clears the way for a statewide vote in which various districts of the state will decide whether or not a sales tax for transportation will be imposed. Its not a plan that will meet the need for smooth, continuous transportation according to Doss. Doss says steam-lining the state budget has lead to an efficient, although underfunded, Georgia Department of Transportation. G-Dot has drop from 10,000 employees a couple of years ago to the current level of five-thousand workers.
